SMF Resource Guide: Navigating Swimming for BIPOC Families

This handbook has been crafted by Simone Manuel and her mother Sharron. It is packed with answers to questions that Simone and Sharron often receive as well as helpful insights and tips tailored to young BIPOC swimmers and their families.

Whether you’re guiding your little ones through their first swim lessons or supporting your teen’s dreams of competing professionally, this resource guide is designed to empower parents and guardians with personal insights they need to nurture their children’s swimming journey.

Make sure to keep it fun. Even now, I will ask Simone ‘Are you having fun?’ because you don’t really want [your children] to stay in something they don’t enjoy.

- Sharron

My coach challenged me to focus on trying hard [at something] even if I don’t like it, and that’s an important lesson that helped me outside the pool.
